Luka Modric – Season So Far (2011)

Luka Modric was bought for Tottenham back in 2008, and has been impressive since his arrival. He was integral in Tottenham’s side which finished fourth last season, winning them a chance to play in the Champions League. 2010/2011 will be a big season for Tottenham and Modric, as they now believe they have a squad which can win the Champions League, and/or Premier League, with a bit of luck.

With Croatia failing to qualify for the World Cup in June 2010, Luka Modric would have a whole summer off football, where he could rest and prepare himself for the next season. Tottenham had improved their squad of the summer, with signings of William Gallas, to strengthen the defence, and Real Madrid star Rafael Van Der Vaart, who has been superb in his first season in the Premier League. Modric was still one of Tottenham’s top players and was to link up very well at the start of the season with Van Der Vaart, and other strikers at the club.

Luka Modric

Luka Modric has played in all but 4 games in the league so far for Tottenham, and was one of the best players in the pitch in crucial matches against Arsenal and Liverpool. Modric hasn’t scored a lot of goals since arriving at Tottenham, as he has only scored 7 goals.

However, it’s his energy in the middle of the park, with great balance and passing skills. His first goal of the season came against West Brom in a 1-1 draw away from home, when he fired the ball in from 12 yards out. It has been his only goal this season, but Modric has been integral in all of the build up play for Tottenham’s goal. The equaliser against Liverpool Modric picked up the ball about 30 yards from goal, and drove into the box with great pace and balance, before crossing a brilliant ball, which caused the defender to score an own goal. Tottenham eventually won the match 2-1, after being a goal down and Modric’s performance was key.

Luka Modric has always been a favourite with the crowd at White Hart Lane, and the fans are desperate for him to stay at the club. There has been rumours in the papers all season, suggesting he will move to a club like Barcelona, Chelsea or Manchester United. However, he has pleased the fans and has suggested he will stay there and achieve success at the club, which he believes the current squad can fulfil.
