Premier League Race

The Premier League is only one week away from starting and as usual we are sceptical on who is going to take the lead, and who is going to hit rock bottom. Although most fans will say the league is a ‘marathon’ rather than a ‘sprint’ – the performances at the beginning of the season can have a long lasting effect on the rest of the campaign.

If Liverpool started last season the way they finished the season before, then perhaps they wouldn’t have finished 7th and missing out on champions league, when their ambitions was to win the league. Burnley proved last year that flying out the traps and being mid table after the first few months, wasn’t even enough to see them playing premiership football this term after a dismal second part of the season. It is important for all the clubs to have the right squad in terms of numbers and quality, as premier league games can be a strenuous task for teams with small squads, with the distractions of cup games not helping either.

Teams need to be consistent throughout the season and this quality separates the teams that achieve their goal, to the ones that don’t. Who is going to play the fantasy soccer to win the premiership trophy this year on a consistent basis? Man United know how to win this particular race and Chelsea have proved they are worthy of the premiership crown too, after they edged Man United to become the current champions. The new season starts on Saturday at 12:45, and the last game of the weekend is Monday at 8:00pn. After we see all the teams in action we will be given a slight glimpse of what the teams are capable of achieving this year, and what teams may have a season to forget.
